It’s safe to say that the game’s remake is in development hell, as it’s starting to turn into a sort of Latin American telenovela.
On the official Twitter page of Prince of Persia, you can read an announcement from Ubisoft, where the French publisher has stated: “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy.
This decision is an important step, and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic when it’s ready. We want to thank you for your continuous support and patience throughout the development. Rest assured that we will update you on the progress in a future update.”
Let’s not forget that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was announced at the Ubisoft Forward 2020, and a release date was announced (January 21, 2021), but the visuals didn’t receive a very positive reception. Then came a postponement (March 18, 2021). It was postponed to an unspecified date to “deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original”. All that is concrete is that it will be released in the current financial year (by the end of March 2023 at the latest). But after this announcement, who knows what will come of it…
After all, we shouldn’t be surprised if Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake changes its target platforms a bit: it would be downright unusual for Ubisoft to leave out PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series pair.
