Game director Takayuki Nakayama has previewed some details about the design of the most famous fighter in Street Fighter 6.
The latest trailer for Street Fighter 6 has renewed the hopes of all fighting game fans. Not only does the premise bring back classic team fights, but it also introduces a new gameplay mode that draws from the current open-world trend with a focus on its own genre. All of this quickly got the community excited and raised further questions about the sequel’s features.
“Although Street Fighter 6 occurs after the Street Fighter III series, Ryu still feels that he’s ‘not there yet'” – Takayuki Nakayama
Where does Street Fighter 6 fit in the timeline? Capcom has sought to answer that question, and according to a recent tweet posted on the franchise’s official account, the game will be taking an unprecedented path. The developer also pointed to a significant addition to Ryu’s design, who will return with minor changes to his personality.
“Although Street Fighter 6 occurs after the Street Fighter III series, Ryu still feels that he’s ‘not there yet’ – though he seems to have gained some dignity. The way he wears the kasaya (Buddhist robe) is reminiscent of his master, Goken,” explains game director Takayuki Nakayama. It is not yet known how much time has elapsed between the events of Street Fighter 3 and the sixth instalment.
Although Street Fighter 6 is expected to be released sometime in 2023, Capcom is quick to whip up players’ anticipation with information that includes both gameplay details and plot details.
