Let’s ask: how much of a mess is it within Sony that they mess up so often with the new PlayStation Plus?
It’s been over two weeks since the new, three-tier PlayStation Plus launched in Asia (and it’s been running in Japan for over a week now; we’ve got two more weeks to wait, and the switchover in the Americas will happen before us), and gamers have been quick to notice that Sony has been charging outrageous amounts for switching from PlayStation Plus Essential to PlayStation Plus Extra and/or PlayStation Plus Premium, which Sony then blamed on a technical glitch.
Sony started to compensate the affected players, but they could only pay them 1% of the intended amount, so instead of ten dollars, only ten cents ended up in their PlayStation Store virtual balance. According to Reddit , after the overpayment, Sony planned to refund 80 Hong Kong dollars to the affected subscribers, and the company apologised. If that had been the bill amount, you wouldn’t be reading this: GamingSym reported that instead of 80 Hong Kong dollars, Sony had only paid 80 cents!
Sony has not yet reacted to this problem. Still, you can almost bet that the company will blame it on another technical glitch, given that the ‘blues’ still haven’t reacted to the fact that Japan has already seen a cap on the cost of multi-year subscriptions to PlayStation Plus Extra or PlayStation Plus Essential (we’ve reported on this price cap before), Sony may be playing mute once more.
So we’re seriously wondering what’s in store for us Europeans: another bunch of PAL-region PS1/PS2 games that, despite being multi-language, will give us a frame rate of 50 FPS instead of 60? Bad pricing? More glitches? We should prepare for the worst.
