Skull & Bones: Contract May Force Ubisoft To Release The Game Soon?!

Sources at Ubisoft speak of a Singapore government subsidy that would be cancelled if Skull & Bones is delayed further.

It is not yet known whether Skull & Bones is still adrift or, on the contrary, about to land. The title, developed by Ubisoft Singapore, has already seen several reports confirming, in some cases, that pirates could be leaving the seas of PS4 and Xbox One. And, the icing on the cake, we now know the release date, which according to a leak, would put the game’s release on November 8.

Was told there was supposed to be closed test this month but was cancelled due to the state of the build” – Ethan Gach

Ubisoft Singapore hasn’t commented on the news, but Kotaku reporter Ethan Gach says the title should be released in the coming months. Why all the optimism when we haven’t seen much of the game yet? Well, in his tweet, the expert reminds us that the developer has signed an agreement with the Singapore government for access to a grant, which, however, does not include a commitment to release Skull & Bones within a specific timeframe.

What do we know about this grant? Not much, really, but Gach responds to an inquiring user with the following details: “The Singapore government is supporting Ubisoft’s studio to hire and train new developers (similar to the corporate agreements in Canada), but the studio must also release a new, original IP and they are running out of time.”

Given that the game was unveiled at E3 2017, Ubisoft may be preparing for release in a way that will allow it to meet the dates agreed with the government. Ethan Gach writes that “it was originally planned for early summer. It was pushed back to September. Now it’s November. They said there would be a closed test this month, but due to the state of the project, it was cancelled.”

Of course, there’s no denying that Skull & Bones has had to navigate a rough ocean in its development.

During this time, sexual harassment allegations surfaced at Ubisoft Singapore, leading to the firing of the studio’s director. In addition, we know that the co-director and lead designer of Skull & Bones have jumped ship, so we don’t know the title’s current status.
