Elizabeth Olsen Responds to Rumours of a Solo Scarlet Witch Movie

Elizabeth Olsen is rumored to have signed a new Marvel contract, but is her new solo movie starring Scarlet Witch in the works?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made a triumphant return to Disney+ last week, making a bigger debut than The Eternals after the hugely successful theatrical release. Despite falling short of Top Gun: Maverick as the biggest-grossing film of the year, Stephen Strange’s latest film and Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Wanda Maximoff were also well received. However, as the film appears to mark the end of Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, the actress has commented on the many rumors that she is still in line to get her own solo film in the future.

Elizabeth Olsen made her full-fledged debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015, when Wanda Maximoff went from James Spader-voiced villain Ultron’s Legion to become the newest member of the Avengers team. After developing a relationship with Vision, devastated by having to simultaneously kill him and watch Thanos kill him again in Avengers: Infinity War, and going through a journey of grief and self-discovery in WandaVision, Olsen’s character has taken a complex path. After Doctor Strange became a villain again in the multiverse of madness, it seemed that he met his end by his own hand in the film’s finale, although no one quite believes it.

In this regard, Olsen recently responded to the news about a possible MCU future for her character, either in her own film or in the WandaVision spin-off, Agatha: House of Harkness spin-off. He responded to all this on the Good Morning America program and said the following:

“I would like to be in both. Nobody tells me anything and I don’t hide anything because I’m bad at it. I don’t know anything about my future”.

While there are generally no certain deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a death that is only hinted at but not specifically put on screen is even less certain. Since Wanda’s final moment appears to be a flash of scarlet among crumbling rocks, this is probably one of the easiest “deaths” to explain. Recently, Marvel producer Richie Palmer seemed to confirm that Wanda still has a lot to do with the future of the MCU when he called her the “jewel” of Phase 4.

Since the multiverse will be a big part of Marvel’s movies and TV series for the next decade, there could potentially be many other versions of Wanda, but while Marvel has done a character reboot of sorts with Loki before, it doesn’t seem likely that they want to lose Wanda’s journey by an alternate version of him from another universe is brought in. We’ll have to wait and see if we’ll learn anything more about Scarlet Witch’s future when Kevin Feige unveils the next phase soon.

In the meantime, you can watch all of Elizabeth Olsen’s performances so far on Disney+, along with the rest of the cast of the Marvel saga.
