Stray Has An Encouraging Record Even Before Its Release

Many people want to adopt a stray cat.

The summer months are not known for flooding the video game market with new AAA releases; this July is not full of blockbuster titles, although popular games like F1 22 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will undoubtedly have their audience. This means more attention will be paid to mid-budget, freshly debuted IPs such as Stray, which looks like a big hit.

VG247 has spotted that Stray is currently the game on Steam that has made it onto most users’ wish lists. The feline adventure recently took the top spot, taking the lead from The Day Before. There are two reasons for this dethronement. One is that Stray is attractive to many people, and the other is that there have been disturbing reports about The Day Before. With the zombie game promising a lot from developer Fntastic (significant location, community building, lots of game mechanics, flashy graphics), there were already doubts as to whether we would get what the previews suggested, and recently they started looking for “volunteers” to complete the MMO, some of whom would not be paid. This development may have discouraged many players, while the perception of Stray has been quite positive since the launch of State of Play.

In Stray, the user will control a cat trying to get back to his family in a cyberpunk world inhabited by robots. The game will focus on exploration, solving logic puzzles, occasional escapes from small hostile creatures, and a drone to communicate with the mechanical inhabitants. Based on the previews, Stray looks very atmospheric, and it is particularly encouraging that it is being published by Annapurna Interactive, whose independent games have been well received. Since 2017, they have made games such as What Remains of Edith Finch, Florence, Donut County, Gone Home, Outer Wilds, Twelve Minutes and The Artful Escape. They recently launched Neon White, which was a surprise hit.

Stray will be released on 19 July for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will be included in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game catalogue.
