Could Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD Disappear From Steam?!

Another Assassin’s Creed title will be unavailable on Steam, as Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD will be available on the platform in the autumn…

Ubisoft is also shutting down online services for specific games, many of which are older titles such as Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, which were released on several older systems. Despite being one of the company’s flagship IPs, it seems that games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise have also fallen victim to the iron fangs of time.

The game, originally titled Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, was a spin-off set alongside the events of Assassin’s Creed 3 and followed the adventures of Aveline de Grandpre in her conflict against the Templars. Initially released in 2012 for PS Vita, it was remade for PS3, PC and Xbox 360 as Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD. This game was then ported to current-gen systems when it was released in 2019 as part of Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered. Unsurprisingly, Ubisoft’s discontinuation of some of the older releases’ features would also affect this game.

Fans will have noticed that the Steam page for Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is currently de-listed, meaning that you will no longer be able to purchase this older version.

However, there is a notice stating that this Assassin’s Creed game will no longer be available around the same day Ubisoft closes its online services. This ultimately means that players who have previously purchased and currently own the game will no longer be able to play this old version.

When Ubisoft officially shut down services for some Assassin’s Creed games, it stated that this closure would not affect remastered releases. The announcement also notes that the shutdown is intended to focus on newer or more popular titles that Ubisoft currently supports.

The reception has understandably been quite hostile, similar to the announcement of the shutdown of Ubisoft’s other game services.

This is illustrated by some of the reviews recently published on the Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD Steam page, with many people expressing disappointment that they had bought the game but would not be able to play it in September. Players will soon only have one chance to play Assassin’s Creed Liberation, and that is through the Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster.
