PS Plus News: Free Trials And Sizable Games Are Coming

PlayStation is reportedly launching free trials for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscription levels in some regions, while games arriving today have been revealed to require a fair amount of storage space.

Before the PS Plus tiered service launch, free trials were commonplace on both PS Plus and PS Now, allowing players to try out the services before investing. The opportunity is back, as PlayStation offers free trials to players in some world regions.

PlayStation is introducing a 7-day free trial for PS Plus Extra and Premium memberships across Europe.

Users who have not yet purchased a PS Plus membership can redeem the free trial; registration requires a credit card. Poland is one of the first countries to receive the free trial of PS Plus Extra and Premium, according to XGP Poland. The free trials are expected to launch across the region on 19 July, today.

PlayStation has not confirmed the availability of PS Plus Extra and Premium free trials in the US, Japan and other world regions. However, the earlier existence of free trials means that the new trials will likely launch in more areas soon after the European launch. PlayStation is expected to share more information about the free trials as the tiered PS Plus service is relatively new to the games market.

Sizeable games inbound

Sony has previously confirmed that it will update its catalogue in the middle of each month, launching 15 new games for the Extra tier in July. These include the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Marvel’s Avengers, Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection and the highly anticipated Stray. As it’s now been revealed, PlayStation Plus subscribers may have to free up some storage space to play the big guns.

PlayStation Game Size has revealed on Twitter the sizes of the titles coming to the catalogue of games available to PlayStation Plus Extra members. It confirms that the PS5 version of Stray will take up 7.514GB of space, compared to 13.352GB on PS4. The critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade needs 81.339GB on PS5, with the Intermission DLC requiring a further 8.988GB, while Marvel’s Avengers requires 107.286GB on PS5.

Interestingly, the PS4 versions of the games require more space in most cases, except for Marvel’s Avengers, where the PS5 edition takes up almost 11GB more.

PlayStation Plus Extra members can play the collection of Assassin’s Creed games that join the service as part of Ubisoft+ Classics. It’s a new subscription service offering older Ubisoft games at no extra charge and is part of PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers. The Twitter post mentions that Assassin’s Creed Unity requires 47.472 GB of space, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag requires 22.946 GB, and Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection requires 37.986 GB. The other two games are much smaller, with Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered both requiring less than 10 GB of storage.
