Joker: Folie À Deux: We Now Know When The Premiere Is Scheduled!

MOVIE NEWS – The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Joker is due in autumn 2024.

The Joker: Folie À Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 smash hit Joker, has just been given an official release date. According to Deadline, the sequel will hit theatres on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the first film. The original movie hit theatres in the same month in 2019, breaking the October US opening record with $96.2 million and eventually grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

Unsurprisingly, DC and Warner Bros. are sticking to the best practices of the prequel, hoping to repeat the first film’s success.

The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and also picked up two Academy Awards, including Best Actor in a Leading Role for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score. According to Deadline, filming will begin in December, and Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips will return.

Phoenix previously told The Playlist, very cryptically, about the film, “I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to – you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy.”

“There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”

No word yet on what direction the film will take, but it’s safe to say there are plenty of exciting possibilities for how the character’s story will continue.

The title, Joker: Folie À Deux, is a French reference to a medical term for a mental disorder involving two people, leading many to speculate that the sequel could focus on Harley Quinn. There are also rumours that Lady Gaga will be joining the cast and that the film will be a musical, although this has not yet been confirmed. However, fans will now have to wait just over two years for Joker: Folie À Deux will be released on October 4 2024.
