D3 Publisher will release Shade’s game only in Japan in a physical format; we’re left with a digital release…
“On the home turf”, the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions will be available for purchase in-store. The first copies will come with a code for the Sailor Suit Gal costume and another code to download the opening song Divine Tuning in MP3 format and Kotonoe Ni Saku Ver. heard during the ending. And the game’s website has revealed more about three characters.
“Nobunaga Oda (voiced by Takaya Kuroda) – “I will slay all who oppose my rule!” A renowned military leader of the Sengoku period, Nobunaga Oda. Meeting Tsumugi in Honno-ji as it burns down around them, he is initially suspicious of the oddly-dressed woman. But with no other means to escape the hoards of undead surrounding them, he offers her a magic katana and asks her to join the fight. Broad-minded yet temperamental, Nobunaga can show glimpses of kindness behind his merciless savagery, earning the enduring loyalty of his ninja subordinate, Iyo. It seems he is determined to live to fulfil some great purpose…
Shingen Takeda (voiced by Shuka Saito) – “But I still wanna play!” Shingen Takeda is a renowned military leader of the Sengoku period, as she appears in the Underworld. Though friendly and fun-loving, her battle prowess is undeniable. She constantly seeks to prove herself, often resorting to violence with a childlike naivety. Although she’s continued her rivalry with Kenshin Uesugi in the Underworld, she can’t stand the constant scolding. That’s not to say Shingen can’t dish it out herself, though, like when she provokes Komimi by treating her like a child.
Kenshin Uesugi (voiced by Emi Uema) – “I am the incarnation of Bishamonten!” A renowned military leader of the Sengoku period, Kenshin Uesugi, as she appears in the Underworld. This vision of beauty may carry herself with gracious dignity, but she couldn’t care less what anyone else has to say. Self-righteous in her benevolence, she ignores everyone else’s wishes and sets out to “save” them as she sees fit. Although Kenshin works as a peacekeeper in the Underworld, her rivalry with Shingen continues unabated. With a tendency for snap judgments, she pronounces Hagane a shameless evildoer when they first meet just because of her outfit.”
Here’s D3 Publisher’s description of the undead-slashing game set in the 16th century Japan, featuring Tsumugi Tamaori from a month ago: “Samurai Maiden follows the story of a high school student who falls asleep after a tedious day of history lessons, waking alongside historical figure Nobunaga Oda, known as the first great unifier in Japan. The two find themselves at the burning Honnoji Temple, where the underworld has opened. Having trained in the art of sword fighting as a hobby, Tsumugi is suddenly put to the test in actual battle as she is gifted the evil warding blade by the desperate Nobunaga Oda, who steps into the underworld to put an end to the calamity. Even Tsumugi, an admittedly poor history student, recognizes Oda as the hero of the Sengoku period and understands she must rise to this odd occasion.
In Samurai Maiden, players can look forward to slaughtering mobs of undead enemies with Tsumugi’s powerful swordsmanship. With stylish combination attacks and strong counters, Tsumugi is well equipped to slay groups of zombies and tough bosses—but as a student from modern times, she is not capable of fighting her way out of the underworld! However, Tsumugi is not the only fighter: she encounters three friendly ninjas at the Honnoji Temple, known as The Gokage, who decide to brave the underworld with her. The Gokage comprises Iyo, a hardworking ninja with various tools, Hagane, an older ninja with a mechanical body, and Komimi, a genius with a unique jutsu. Through their travel, the team will quarrel, laugh, and fight alongside each other, forging new bonds in the process.
Players can use the “Gokage System” in their journey, which allows a rapid combination of Tsumugi’s sword style and The Gokage’s powerful ninjutsu. From the samurai’s slashing and piercing attacks—to the ninjas’ wire arm, freezing yin yang jutsu, and various kunai attacks, players will be able to utilize these two types of offence to fight through the hoard of undead enemies. Additionally, the group has unlockable special abilities: when Tsumugi and The Gokage’s spirits are heightened, they can unlock these abilities by locking lips. However, they will need to build trust in each other before these special unified abilities can be unleashed in battle. Cut through the evils in the Sengoku period while establishing relationships with the Sengoku maidens as the temple burns. The samurai slices while the ninjas dice to destroy the underworld of Honnoji Temple—will they be able to rewrite history?”
Samurai Maiden will be released in Japan on December 1 and worldwide on December 8 for PlayStation 5, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. In the second video, gameplay runs from 21:49 to 32:52.
