MOVIE NEWS – Hugh Jackman is set to make his Marvel Universe debut alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3, which hits cinemas on 6 September 2024.
Hugh Jackman’s return was announced by none other than Reynolds himself, who has played the outspoken mercenary in several 20th Century Fox projects. He revealed via social media that he and Jackman are teaming up for Disney’s first Deadpool movie.
“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now,” Reynolds said in the video while sitting on the couch.
“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside.”
“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” asks Reynolds when Jackman walks into the background of the shot.
“Yeah, sure Ryan,” Jackman replies.
Disney has previously said that Deadpool would be integrated into the MCU, but it was unclear when the character would get a standalone movie and where he would fit into the more enormous scope of the Multiverse.
Deadpool is one of several comic book properties Disney acquired when it bought 20th Century Fox in 2019. The X-Men and Fantastic Four are also getting movies in the coming years.
Reynold’s Deadpool movies are a rarity in Hollywood. Both Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were R-rated, and each grossed more than $780 million worldwide. This is probably the reason why Disney agreed to make Deadpool 3 R-rated, even though the rest of the MCU’s filmography is usually rated PG-13 or lower.
