MOVIE NEWS – Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer reveal what to expect in the fifth and final season of the popular Netflix series.
Stranger Things is preparing for its fifth and final season. Matt and Ross Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter that the script for the first episode is already complete. The Duffer brothers spoke about the series at an event in Los Angeles.
THR captured the cast and creators’ comments at the panel discussion, where the Duffer brothers said the script for Stranger Things 5 has already brought tears to executives’ eyes.
That could mean many things, but the creators say it’s tears of joy. “We did get our executives to cry, which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying,” said Matt Duffer. “The only other times I’ve seen them cry were like budget meetings.”
The duo shared their plans for the next season with Netflix in a two-hour meeting. They outlined the main plot points that will take place during the final episodes. Shawn Levy, the executive producer of Stranger Things, says, “those were different tears.”
“As a witness and having been in that two-hour pitch room and having read this first script – I’m paralyzed with fear that I’ll spoil anything but I will say the thing about these Duffer brothers is that even though the show has gotten so famous and the characters have gotten so iconic and there’s so much about the ’80s and the supernatural and the genre, it’s about these people, it’s about these characters. Season five is already so clearly taking care of these stories of the characters because that’s always been the lifeblood of Stranger Things.”
Season 4 of Stranger Things has delivered one of the series’ most action-packed and VFX-heavy seasons, which means the production time for the fifth episode could be extended.
However, fans will have to wait for more news on the upcoming release as writing has just begun.
As the Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have said, the final season has left executives in tears. That means viewers can expect a heartbreaking finale. Of course, the audience will be rooting for the Hawkins boys when Stranger Things 5 arrives, though fans shouldn’t expect the series to end without a significant amount of Upside Down action.
