A Stranger Things VR Game Is In Development! [VIDEO]

Netflix is the publisher of the project, and Tender Claws is its developer.

Stranger Things is one of Netflix’s flagship series. The sci-fi horror and drama is currently in its fourth season, but a fifth is in the works to conclude the series. In addition, Netflix, which has been slowly expanding into the gaming industry, has announced a game with the following description: “Play as Vecna in this new Stranger Things adventure in virtual reality. Become an explorer of unknown realities as you form the hive mind and tame the void. Invade minds and conjure nightmares to enact revenge on Eleven and Hawkins. Stranger Things VR is a psychological horror/action game developed by Tender Claws and coming to major virtual reality platforms in winter 2023.”

Tender Claws is known for Virtual Virtual Reality, a sinister AI comedy. According to the teaser video, the Upside Down will be explored with its monstrous inhabitants, and there will be psychic battles with the good guys, all with the series’ Season 4 villain (Vecna, named after a Dungeons & Dragons enemy). Demogorgon also makes an appearance in the video.

The franchise has been popping up little as a game adaptation lately. Previously there was one called Stranger Things 3: The Game, but that was removed from Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store in 2021, and before the original Telltale Games filed for bankruptcy, they had a game planned for the IP, but that project ultimately didn’t come to fruition, so Stranger Things mostly got crossovers (Dead By Daylight, Far Cry 6, Minecraft).

The problem is that the “major VR platforms” were not narrowed down. PlayStation VR2? Meta Quest 2? Meta Quest Pro? Oculus Rift S? HTC Vive? Valve Index? We will hear about that later, and it will probably be months before the target platforms, and the release date is announced…
