Xbox has confirmed a new Xbox Game Pass Day One game coming to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass in January 2023 via the Game Preview program.

 

Xbox has confirmed a new day-one game coming to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscription services in January 2023 via the Xbox Game Preview program. Although Xbox Game Pass are full releases, and occasionally Microsoft adds an early access title, giving fans the chance to try games before they are fully developed.

The Xbox Game Preview program is the Xbox equivalent of Steam Early Access. Over the years, some notable games have become available through the Xbox Game Preview program, one of the most recent and notable examples being Disney’s Dreamlight Valley. Disney Dreamlight Valley was playable through the Xbox Game Preview program and part of the Game Pass subscription service.

The same goes for Inculinati, a new Day One Xbox Game Pass game coming to the Xbox Game Preview program on January 31st, 2023. On this day, subscribers will be able to play Inculinati in the cloud, on Xbox consoles, and on PC. Described as an “ink-based” strategy game, Inculinati features a unique art style that mimics medieval manuscripts and challenges players to become “masters of living ink.”

Oddly enough, Inculinati wouldn’t be the first Day One Game Pass game to take inspiration from medieval manuscripts. Obsidian Entertainment’s narrative-based Pentiment uses an art style also inspired by medieval manuscripts and art. Pentiment joined Game Pass as part of the November 2022 lineup and received high scores from critics and was hailed as one of the best new Day One Game Pass games of the year.

Time will tell if Inkulinati can measure up to Pentiment, but it should be noted that they are completely different games aside from a similar art style. While Pentiment is a narrative-focused game, Inculinati is a strategy game. It should appeal to different people, but maybe those who liked Pentiment’s unique art style will still want to try Inculinati, even if they aren’t fans of standard strategy games.

Inculinati isn’t the only game coming to Game Pass in January. A few big guns have also been confirmed for the service next month, including Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Monster Hunter Rise, so subscribers will have plenty to look forward to in the new year.

Inculinati will be available in Early Access on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X starting January 31st.
