National Treasure 3: Latest Updates on the Third Film in the Nicolas Cage Franchise

MOVIE NEWS – National Treasure 3 has been in the works for some time, and now it is one step closer to being on the cinema screen.

Starring Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger, National Treasure sees the Gates family embark on a series of epic quests to recover missing American historical documents. The original 2004 film was such a massive success that it spawned another sequel in 2017, National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets, in which the Gates family searches for answers to a family conspiracy theory related to the tenure of President Abraham Lincoln.

Six years have passed since the last part, but fans of the series are still waiting for the next movie. However, the wait is finally over, as the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, announced at the beginning of the year that the script has already been completed, they are just waiting for the approval of the actor Nicolas Cage. As recently as this December, National Treasure star Justin Bertha also confirmed news about the script, adding that series director and screenwriter Jon Turteltaub has been approached, but like Cage, he has yet to give a definitive answer about his involvement. As for Bartha, he added that if asked, there’s no doubt he’d say yes to reprising his role as Riley Poole.

Fast forward to December 2022, and Bruckheimer has confirmed to multiple sources that the series has moved past the script stage and is already in development. In an interview with News, Bruckheimer recently hinted at working on a third installment, saying, “Let’s just say we have 47 reasons to be interested.”

In early December 2022, the Disney Plus network treated old and new fans of National Treasure movies to a TV series called National Treasure: Edge of History. The series focuses on a new protagonist, Jess Valenzuela. Her life becomes chaotic when a mysterious stranger hints at a centuries-old treasure linked to her long-deceased father. Jess has a knack for solving mysteries, and her skills are put to the test when she and her friends uncover a series of clues hidden deep within America’s most significant antiquities and monuments.

The series stars Lisette Olivera as Jess, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Billie, an antique dealer, and Lyndon Smith as Agent Ross. National Treasure veteran star Justin Bartha makes multiple appearances in the series as Riley Poole, and Jon Turteltaub returns as an executive producer. Despite its relative success, Disney Plus has yet to confirm when the series will return, but it seems likely to be renewed, as is the case for Nicolas Cage’s appearance.
