MOVIE NEWS – The M3GAN horror movie, whose heroine is a doll blessed with artificial intelligence, brought in more than 30 million dollars in North America in its first weekend. Thanks to his self-development program, he radically reinterprets his mission, according to which he must protect his small owner at all costs. Industry experts only shot the first weekend’s income at around 20 million, which would also have been a nice result for the production made from only 12 million dollars.
There is nothing surprising about the seemingly surprising success, since M3GAN was released in the middle of a huge internet hype, dozens of memes were created about the killer doll weeks before the release, and fans even without knowing the movie were fighting over who cooler petite horror: the new doe-eyed fluff, or former stars Chucky (from the Child’s Toy franchise) or Annabelle (also a cult horror franchise).
But the Internet céco is still on the hook, because the film was particularly successful (it received 92 percent on the RottenTomatoes portal), and this information spread like lightning. The theme of the killer doll has long been a well-worn cliché, but the creators were able to literally pump fresh blood into the genre, and the play also has a serious message for those who, while enjoying the killing, are looking for an underlying content. The culture portal Slate points out that the ferocious robot’s rampage is a cruel metaphor for bad parental attitudes: the orphaned little girl cannot be comforted by a loving surrogate parent, but is entrusted to a thinking machine citing other preoccupations, and after a while everyone can take a look.
Another good news is that the director’s version is being cut with extra blood, so the film’s cult status is absolutely guaranteed.
Oh, and M3GAN is even funny, but it doesn’t want to be a parody because its humor is as black as night.
