New PS5 DualSense Controller Colors Leaked!

On an official PlayStation website, two different, as-yet-unreleased color PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers are being referred to.

Two unreleased PlayStation 5 DualSense controller colors have surfaced on an official PlayStation website, prompting gamers to wonder if new options are coming soon. Since the release of the PS5 in 2020, Sony has been trickling out alternative color options for the DualSense controllers. Even now, there are only six widely available color options for DualSense controllers beyond the basic white option. Even two more PS5 DualSense color options would be an exciting change.

There are currently six widely available base colors for PS5 DualSense controllers. These include the original white colorway of the controllers that came with the PlayStation 5, as well as Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. Two additional color options are also available. The first is the Gray Camouflage DualSense controller and the second is the God of War Ragnarok controller. Both controllers may only be available on a limited basis.

Sony may be planning two additional color options for the PS5 DualSense controllers, according to recently discovered official details. A Reddit user named Loyal_Frost shared that during official warranty registration on the PlayStation website, users can choose the color of the controller to be registered. The drop-down menu includes all of the expected DualSense color options, plus two additional colors. Metallic Gray and Metallic Red are also available as options.

PlayStation fans may recognize the branding. “Metallic Grey” was the name of one of the color options for the PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 controller, and is a reference to the PS2’s Satin Silver controller. They all offer a glossy grey/silver finish that not only looks good, but harkens back to the gray controller of the original PlayStation. Metallic Red is expected to be similar, offering a bright red with a paint type that shimmers slightly in the light.

The inclusion of Metallic Gray and Metallic Red on this list in no way means that PlayStation plans to introduce these color variants in the near future, if at all. They may have been planned but scrapped, or listed completely by accident, offered in test markets but never fully released, or something like that. Things like this happen all the time.

However, it is also true that PlayStation releases new color variations for controllers every year. New color combinations are almost certain to arrive in 2023, and metallic gray and metallic red may very well be the new colors. Perhaps these will also be the new color options for the improved DualSense Edge controller. Time will tell what PlayStation’s next direction is with the PS5 DualSense controllers.
