MOVIE NEWS – An interesting character from the first season of The Last of Us wants a deeper insight into his own story.
Following the conclusion of the phenomenally successful first season on HBO, one of the stars of The Last of Us is calling for a deeper look at one of the original characters from the series.
Among the new characters in the series was Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey), a woman at the forefront of the anti-Fedra faction in Kansas City, Missouri, who relentlessly pursued her enemies and those she felt betrayed her.
Although no one but Joel and Ellie made it out of KC alive, Kathleen’s character, driven to avenge her brother, who died after falling to Fedra, was both chilling and compelling.
According to Variety, Melanie Lynskey thinks Kathleen really needs a full-fledged origin story. It would explain how her character got where she is, including her bloodlust for revenge. Lynskey said, “If they wanted to go back and do an origin story, I’d be all for it,” he said. “It would be a fascinating story of how this woman got into this crazy situation”.
Lynskey’s Kathleen shows the actress’s ultimate ability to play gentle and absolutely deadly characters. It’s the same in Lynskey’s other recent hit series, Yellowjackets. The latter is now in its second season of carnage and cannibalism on Showtime. There, Lynskey plays the adult version of the teenage Shawna, one of the series’ most complex and emotionally tangled characters. The story, by the way, is about a group of teenagers trapped in the mountains after a plane crash.
Lynskey, who first made his name in the 1994 film Heavenly Creatures alongside Kate Winslet as two murderous girls, has had several memorable roles on the big and small screen, although only recently has he begun to receive recognition for his creepy performances in series such as The Last of Us and Yellowjackets.
However she got this far, Lynskey’s curiosity about a possible deeper exploration of Kathleen’s backstory should be of interest to fans. Even if she didn’t survive the first season, that doesn’t necessarily mean viewers have seen the last of her in a series known for its exciting choices and surprises.
