MOVIE NEWS – The new Stephen King adaptation from Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan is reportedly set to feature two prominent MCU and Star Wars actors.
Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan’s new Stephen King adaptation will feature some of the biggest actors from Marvel and Star Wars. Flanagan made his feature film debut with the 2011 independent horror film Absentia. Also known as the creator and showrunner of Netflix’s hit series The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, the director is no stranger to adapting King’s work for the screen. He also helmed 2017’s Gerald’s Game before turning his attention to 2019’s The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep.
More recently, Deadline revealed that Flanagan’s latest King adaptation, Life of Chuck, will star Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill.
The script was initially reported to have been completed before the current WGA writers’ strike. The project has been in development for several months. Hiddleston is slated to take on the title role of Charles “Chuck” Krantz, while Hamill’s character will play his grandfather Albie.
Based on the three-act novel of the same name, Life of Chuck follows the story of a 39-year-old man. His life story is told in reverse order. Originally featured in King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, the story begins with Chuck dying in a hospital bed from a brain tumour. The story ends with him as an orphaned child moving in with his grandparents in a supposedly haunted house.
Flanagan’s forthcoming adaptation is being compared to some of King’s more emotional works. Such as Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Life of Chuck seems to steer clear of King’s penchant for horror elements largely.
Despite this, the original story still contains much of King’s trademark character creation and love of the surreal.
This film will be Flanagan’s second collaboration with Hamill. The latter is also starring in the upcoming Netflix series Fall of The House of Usher, based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe story. But Flanagan will be working with Hiddleston for the first time. No word yet on when audiences can expect Life of Chuck to arrive in cinemas. However, with this star-studded cast, the latest Stephen King adaptation is sure to catch the attention of many.
