MOVIE NEWS – People in the Boston area are having fun with the fact that a beautiful tracking shot was probably not filmed in the area. (WARNING, spoiler alert if you haven’t seen episode 3!)
The latest episode of The Last of Us has been seen by millions and received rave reviews. But fans aren’t loving everything about Long Long Time. The episode opens with a “10 Miles West Of Boston” shot. However, neighbourhood residents quickly realized that the geography was utterly wrong.
The new episode showed a beautiful nature scene with a canyon and large mountains in the distance, but in reality, there is nothing like that within 10 miles of Boston.
A source told Boston.com that HBO used drone footage. So they took actual footage of the Boston area for use in The Last of Us. But much of the filming for the series took place in Alberta, Canada. Presumably, that’s where this particular footage of the decidedly non-Boston wilderness came from.
The Bostonians were quick to roast HBO for all this. Below you can see some of the reactions, including a joke about Dunkin’ Donuts. (These restaurants are almost rife in the US, especially on the East Coast.)
Even New England writer Stephen King didn’t like the omission and commented on the incident.
Speaking of which, HBO may have missed the Boston geography. Still, the episode was totally New England-esque in depicting a post-apocalyptic Cumberlands farm where Joel (Pedro Pascal) has stashed some supplies.
“Long Long Time” tells the story of Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett). The plot was the biggest departure from the game so far. HBO recently announced that a second season is in the works, and fans believe it will follow the events of The Last of Us: Part II and feature Abby, among others.
