The Mortal Kombat 2 Movie Introduces Familiar Villains from the Games, and Is Already Preparing the Third Part!

MOVIE NEWS – The filming of the second Mortal Kombat movie is currently underway, and with the newly announced villains, the third part of the trilogy is already being prepared.

Filming on Mortal Kombat 2 is in full swing, and the series’ new villains are already hinting at a possible third film. The 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat, which was based on the video game series of the same name, was successful despite the COVID-19 epidemic. Although it did not have a particularly high gross in theaters, it achieved the highest ratings on the HBO Max platform in its opening weekend, with 3.8 million viewers.

Following this success, the development of the sequel started. Veteran Hollywood producer Todd Garner has confirmed that filming for Mortal Kombat 2 is already underway. During the latest announcements, it was revealed that two well-known villains from the games will also appear in the film: Shao Kahn and Quan Chi. They will be important characters in Mortal Kombat 2 and a possible third part.

In the Mortal Kombat games, Shao Kahn is often featured as one of the main antagonists, he is the Emperor of Outworld and one of the most powerful wizards in the entire franchise. Quan Chi is also a popular villain in Mortal Kombat, though not on the same level as Shao Kahn. Mortal Kombat games often feature two main villains, Shao Kahn and Shinnok, with Shang Tsung and Quan Chi as their right-hand men.

The introduction of Shao Kahn and Quan Chi as villains in Mortal Kombat 2 is a big deal. Shao Kahn will be played by Martyn Ford, a muscular British bodybuilder who effortlessly brings the villain’s terrifying presence to life. Quan Chi is played by Damon Herriman, and both characters may form an alliance with Shang Tsung from the first Mortal Kombat film, played by Chin Han.

The first film ended with Shang Tsung threateningly promising to continue his attack on Earth, with Shao Kahn and Quan Chi helping him. The inclusion of Shao Kahn in the story suggests that he may eventually become the main villain of the series, given his power in the game. At the same time, Quan Chi’s role in Mortal Kombat 2 could introduce the game series’ other main villain, Shinnok. Shinnok is a fiend of the Mortal Kombat universe, an Elder God and lord of the Netherrealm. After failing to conquer Earth, he met Quan Chi in the Netherrealm, and the pair killed Lucifer, and Shinnok became the ruler of the underworld of the Mortal Kombat world.

From then on, Quan Chi became his right-hand man and servant, often acting at Shinnok’s will in the Mortal Kombat games and repeatedly attempting to bring him back from the Netherrealm. This could be the starting point for Quan Chi’s story in Mortal Kombat 2. While forming an alliance with Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, Quan Chi may have an ulterior motive to free Shinnok if their relationship already exists. This could be completed by the end of Mortal Kombat 2, preparing the third part, or it could be left to the third movie to unfold the entire story.

The inclusion of Shao Kahn and Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat 2, the presence of villains familiar to fans of the games, and the possibility of introducing additional antagonists shows the need for Mortal Kombat 3. Shang Tsung will likely be the main villain in Mortal Kombat 2 given the story of the first film, so Shao Kahn and Quan Chi may not get the attention fans expect. But that’s why the third movie is necessary.
