This Xbox Game Pass game was a huge hit on its first day!

A game that launched on the first day of Xbox Game Pass in May has already passed a major milestone on the popular subscription service.

The Xbox Game Pass game Ravenlok, which was added to the service on the first day of Xbox Game Pass in May, has already reached an important milestone. Released just two days after the poorly received Xbox in-house vampire-slaying FPS Redfall , Ravenlok seemed lost in the thick of it at first. However, it has now become one of the biggest Game Pass hits of the year.

Part of what developer Cococucumber calls the Voxel Trilogy, Ravenlok is a third-person action RPG set in a whimsical Alice in Wonderland-inspired fantasy world with beautiful voxel art. The other games in the Voxel trilogy are Riverbond and Echo Generation, the latter a turn-based RPG inspired by Stranger Things. Since 2019’s Riverbond, Cococucumber has continued to refine and perfect its signature voxel art style, culminating in the Ravenloks, the conclusion to the Cococucumber Voxel Trilogy.

As Cococucumber’s first fantasy action RPG and the studio’s biggest game to date, Ravenlok has reached a major milestone. In an Xbox Wire interview with Cococucumber lead programmer and director Martin Gauvreau, it was revealed that Ravenlok has amassed 500,000 players in just six weeks. Half a million players is an impressive feat for virtually any game, but especially for a smaller title from an indie team like Ravenlok.

In the interview, Gauvreau explains how developing on the Xbox Series X and S consoles has benefited Cococucumber, as they were able to optimize 4K resolution at 60fps on the Series X console, and also mentions that the console’s SSD allows made it possible for the team to realize their ideas while mitigating compromises. With the game coming just two days after Redfall , it’s possible that Game Pass users who were let down by Arkane’s open-world vampire shooter before Ravenlok arrived on the service jumped ship as the next Game Pass release instead of Cococucumber’s fantasy RPG .

Although Cococucumber is still a smaller studio, its games seem to be getting bigger with each release. As the studio’s Voxel Trilogy wraps up, we have to wonder if the studio still has plans to continue making voxel games after Ravenlok’s huge Game Pass success. Now that Ravenlok has amassed half a million players, there’s no doubt that Cococucumber has gathered thousands of new fans and followers eager to learn about the studio’s next project.

Ravenlok is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
