PlayStation Plus: Your Last Chance to Play These Legendary Japanese Action RPGs for Free!

The PlayStation Plus library continues to expand, offering a plethora of truly fantastic titles for those who subscribe to Sony’s service. Be it Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Bloodborne, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and many more, there’s something for everyone. Unfortunately, however, with the arrival of new games, we must bid farewell to some.

There’s a series that I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone, the Yakuza series (previously known as Like a Dragon), developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. At one point, the entire Yakuza series was available on PS Plus, but unfortunately, this number has been steadily decreasing over time.

As it stands, Yakuza 0 (the series’ prequel), Yakuza Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 (modern reinterpretations of the original two games), Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, and finally, Yakuza: Like a Dragon are still available on the PS Plus service. But sadly, this number will soon decrease further, so I urge all subscribers to take advantage of this opportunity and play this acclaimed RPG series while it’s still free!

On August 15, 2023, Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 will leave PlayStation Plus, leaving only Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Yakuza 6. This means that only two games from the series will remain in Sony’s subscription service. Truly, these are sorrowful times.

However, there is a silver lining: if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, I am happy to inform you that the entire Yakuza series (excluding Like a Dragon: Ishin) is fully available on Microsoft’s subscription service.

As for the series’ near future, there is still plenty of Yakuza goodness to look forward to. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is set to release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on November 9, 2023, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is coming in 2024.
