A new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has been released for EVO 2023. It shows the return of a classic character alongside other fighters from the series’ past.
One of the most sought-after classic characters has finally been confirmed for the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. A new trailer shows the return of Reptile alongside other fighters from the series’ past. Many fans of the long-running brawler franchise have been eagerly awaiting this announcement. Developer NetherRealm Studios and series creator Ed Boon recently hinted at Reptile’s return on social media.
One of the franchise’s most iconic characters, the scaly-skinned fighter Reptile, debuted as a secret wrestler in the original 1992 Mortal Kombat.
Since his first appearance, Reptile has become a staple of the series. The shapeshifting fighter has appeared in more than a dozen Mortal Kombat games. Players will likely learn more about Reptile’s new abilities in the coming weeks.
Reptile’s return was confirmed in the new “Banished” trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, which was released at EVO 2023. True to its title, the trailer showcases a trio of in-game fighters who have seemingly been banished from their community. In addition to Reptile, who was expelled from his society for his ability to take human form, the trailer focuses on the Netherrealm demon Ashrah and the Chaosrealm priest Havik. The surprise addition of this trio of fearsome fighters to the MK1 roster will undoubtedly come as a pleasant surprise to long-time fans of the franchise.
The trailer also revealed that Ashrah wouldn’t be the only Netherrealm demon to appear in Mortal Kombat 1: shapeshifting assassin Sareena will appear as “Kameo Warrior” alongside Havik to help out in a fierce brawl.
As with the MK1 characters revealed so far, the new fighters all have drastically altered backstories in the reimagined world created by fire god Liu Kang. This is particularly evident in the case of Reptile. After all, the traditionally evil warrior in the new trailer appears to be working on the side of the forces of good.
MK1’s September 19 release date is creeping ever closer. Developer NetherRealm Studios is rationing the new character reveal nicely. With the game’s pre-order beta only weeks away, it won’t be long before fans of the franchise can finally get their own taste of the bloody, brutal action.
