PlayStation 5 Could Soon Get An Important, Previously Mobile-Exclusive Feature?!

TECH NEWS – New screenshots show that Sony is integrating a previously mobile-exclusive feature directly into PlayStation 5 consoles in an update.

Gamers who have worked the last year tirelessly to unlock collectibles in Sony’s PlayStation Stars program will soon have a new place to display their favourites. It looks like PlayStation Stars integration is coming to PlayStation 5. Previously only available through Sony’s PlayStation App, the free loyalty program lets players earn points, purchase items, and unlock collectibles by buying and playing PlayStation games.

When the PlayStation Stars program launched last year, it brought a unique version of product loyalty programs to home consoles.

By completing various campaigns, PlayStation Stars members can unlock game-themed digital collectibles. They can also earn points that can be redeemed for prizes such as PlayStation Store credits. These campaigns range from simple activities, such as playing through a particular game within a specific timeframe, to more challenging tasks, such as being the first player in a region to unlock a platinum trophy in a particular title. Sony’s PlayStation Plus programme members can also earn additional points by purchasing games from PlayStation’s online stores.

According to the gaming site TwistedVoxel, a new update to PlayStation 5 finally integrates PlayStation Stars directly into the popular console. By allowing players to access the loyalty program through their console rather than having to use a separate mobile app, friction will be eliminated. Sony can get more players involved in PlayStation Stars.

Owners of Sony’s latest console can access the new feature via the PlayStation 5 privacy settings menu, where they can customise what information they want to share about their membership with others.

Players will be able to share their PlayStation Stars level with other players. They will also be able to display the collectibles they have earned during their time in the program. In order to protect the privacy of underage players, or perhaps just to prevent younger players from spotting a potentially risky collectible earned with M-rated titles, these options will only be available to adult PlayStation Network accounts.

The ability for players to access and share their PlayStation Stars level and unlocked collectibles directly from PlayStation 5. This is a smart move by Sony. It could help drive interest in the company’s often-overlooked loyalty program.
