A New Name And A Delayed Launch For The Lollipop Chainsaw Remake!

We’ll have to wait for a new adaptation of the chainsaw-bearing game, but now, the project has a name.

So far, all we’ve heard is that a remake of Lollipop Chainsaw is in the works. The original was made by Grasshopper Manufacture and was released on June 12, 2012 (June 15 in Europe) for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Dragami Games will remake it, but the previously planned 2023 is off the table, but the target platforms were not changed with the delay.

The game is now called Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, but its launch window has been set for Summer 2024, so it will only reach us at least six months later. Dragami Games explained the delay in a press release: “Although the development of [Lollipop Chainsaw] RePOP was carried out with the intention of a 2023 release, our commitment to providing the best possible quality experience to our players led us to make the hard decision to extend the development period to ensure this. We sincerely apologize to all waiting for the latest installment in the Lollipop Chainsaw series and kindly ask for your understanding in this matter.”

It’s an interesting phrase to call the IP a series, even though no sequel to the action-adventure hack’n’slash game has since been made (Suicide Squad director James Gunn admitted that Tomo Ikeda and Suda51’s game was an inspiration for him, but it’s different), so Dragami Games, which was formed from Kadokawa Games, might be teasing something, because if there’s one of something, it’s not a series even if they reimagine that one, because you still get the original game, just in a slightly different approach.

How is Dragami linked to IP? The answer is simple: while in the West, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment was the publisher of Lollipop Chainsaw, in Japan, it was Kadokawa Games who took over the role, so the rights were not hard to get (and Warner probably let it go…).
