Is Persona 6 A Significant Step Forward?

There are already rumors circulating on the internet about the next new game from SEGA-owned Atlus.

Surprisingly, Persona 6 is still several years away from release, yet rumors are already being heard, so someone at Atlus or within SEGA is keeping their mouths shut. On Twitter, @MbKKssTBhz5 has been talking about the game and has previously leaked accurately about Persona and the main franchise Shin Megami Tensei (Persona started as an SMT spin-off…). According to him, the new Persona installment was never planned to be released in 2024, but the company is looking at 2025 or, even more likely, 2026.

Persona 6 will be a higher-scale title than Persona 5 and can be called different in several ways. The Persona 3 remake is being treated as a test case of sorts for this reason by the SEGA/Atlus duo. It will be a much more significant step than what Persona 5 showed off compared to 3 and 4. 2026 will be the 30th anniversary of Persona. Meanwhile, another project called P5X is in the works. It will be released in Japan, and a closed beta is underway. It will be announced soon, and there is a good chance it will be announced during the Tokyo Game Show. There are also plans to release the P5X in China.

Meanwhile, Atlus is not forgetting Shin Megami Tensei. The new game is already in development, and a decision has already been made on when to unveil the title that will be linked to SMT V. There might be a reference to it at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, although you never know when it will be revealed. It could also be a port to other platforms or just a spin-off.

This information is not official, so it should be treated as rumors. However, it seems that Atlus is slowly going double-duty on Persona IP, so it’s no wonder that a new port or spin-off is coming almost yearly.
