Techland Responds To Criticism Of Dying Light 2’s Microtransactions!

The Polish studio has somewhat cheekily expanded Dying Light 2: Stay Human…

With the latest update, the game has got a crossover with Payday, the third part of which is coming out soon (and quite inexplicably also gets Denuvo on PC while requiring a constant internet connection, hence getting extra DRM for absolutely nothing…), but at the same time, another thing has made its way into Techland’s game. A new in-game currency, the DL points, has also entered Dying Light 2: the Poles wanted to replace the ability to buy traditional premium gear with this new currency.

The public understandably reacted negatively to it (there’s nothing worse than a game that comes out clean and then gets microtransactions afterward: Activision Blizzard did it with Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, for example). But the public reaction was so strong that Techland had to step in. Let’s see what the developers have to say…

“As always, we are gathering your feedback and hear your concerns. As far as we understand, a big part of the frustration stems from the pricing of the bundles and the resulting leftover DL Points. To figure out this issue, we’ve already started working on a couple of solutions proposed by the community. For example, we’re reviewing the mechanics of adding an option to purchase individual items from the existing bundles. This way, if you have any spare DL Points, you could spend them on different bundles. Why not use Michonne’s Katana while cosplaying a chicken? Still, that will not happen overnight, as it’ll take the devs some time to rework the system. Meanwhile, as a reminder, several bundles in the store can be bought for less than 500 DL Points that you can grab now – or you can wait until we implement the solution suggested above,” Techland wrote.

Let’s explain what’s wrong: for example, the Firedevil bundle costs 750 DL points. But you can’t buy 750 points, only 1100, which costs $10. Of course, the bigger point bundles have more discounts, but there are almost always points left over. Franchise director Tymon Smektała will be holding an AMA on the subject soon.

Techland is greedy.
