Starfield’s Big Launch; The Elder Scrolls VI Could Be A Next-Gen Launch Title

Bethesda Game Studios’ (BGS) fresh game has been putting together some great results.

Citing GSD (Game Sales Data) data, Gamesindustry reported that Starfield has become the biggest Xbox launch of the current console generation in Europe, overtaking Forza Horizon 5, and Todd Howard’s new game is the top new IP for 2023. Starfield is also in fifth place in the annual list, ahead of Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The game has already beaten Resident Evil 4 Remake, F1 23, Dead Island 2, and NBA 2K23.

Last week’s European top 10 also went to Starfield, ahead of NBA 2K23, Titanfall 2 (due to rumors of a sequel), Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Need For Speed: Heat, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, Fifa 23, and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. It’s a strange list of old games, but especially Need For Speed: Heat seems unusual because there is no reason for it.

Writing for Axios, Stephen Totilo reported on Twitter, based on documents in the FTC vs. Microsoft case, that the Redmond-based tech giant has set The Elder Scrolls VI for Xbox Series and PC for 2026, and in court, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that the release is at least five years away, with no decision on target platforms. And in another document, Microsoft told the FTC ONE YEAR AGO that Xbox Series, PC, and no other platforms are planned for The Elder Scrolls VI!

So it’s at least five years away. Then we can say 2028. Well, Totilo on Axios just wrote that the next-gen Xbox will be released in 2028, so even though the company is trying to transcend generations in the industry, they are still planning to continue this trend. It was revealed in an internal company chat document that was finally made public in connection with the FTC case. Kevin Gammill, the corporate vice president of the gaming ecosystems, said they want a Windows-like, flexible approach in the 10th console generation while ensuring developers can leverage unique hardware capabilities. It could use a hybrid approach. Cloud.

It must be a coincidence that The Elder Scrolls VI and the new Xbox are scheduled for release in 2028… or not.
