PlayStation Plus: The Service Using a Misleading Hogwarts Legacy Ad?

It’s no secret that Hogwarts Legacy has made a lot of money this year. It has made more money than the Harry Potter movies since its initial release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, and is still awaiting its release on Nintendo Switch next month. Recently, however, fans were surprised to see it featured on a new banner ad for Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service.

The action-adventure role-playing game set in the Harry Potter universe was featured alongside Horizon Forbidden West: and, interestingly enough, The Last Of Us: Part II, suggesting that it will be coming to the service soon, either as a free trial for premium subscribers or as part of the Extra Games catalog.

Bowercw1 shared the announcement on Reddit, saying “TLOU 2 and Hogwarts Legacy are coming to ‘Deluxe’. I live in the US, it’s never been called ‘Deluxe’ here. Is that a mistake?”

As fans dissected the image of The Last of Us: Part II and what it could mean for the title, fans of Hogwarts Legacy theorized that the inclusion of their game could be an obvious attempt to mislead those who don’t subscribe to the service.

After one fan pointed out that Hogwarts Legacy is only available as a 45-minute trial on PlayStation Plus, another fan said, “If that’s the case, then this picture is misleading advertising. Some might even call it deliberately misleading”.

Another responded, “In any other case I would agree, but here it clearly says ‘and try the new blockbusters’ with the accompanying text box. If that meant you were getting full access, then yes, it was sneaky, but I don’t think it could be considered misleading here.

Whether Hogwarts Legacy will be moved to the Extra games catalog is a mystery for now, though unlikely. Moving to a subscription service would likely take away limited profits, so it’s likely to remain a free trial for premium PlayStation Plus members for now.

Hogwarts Legacy is available for Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and coming soon to Nintendo.
