Lies Of P: A Huge Surprise In Store For Bloodborne Fans?!

Bloodborne’s popularity is well deserved, but Lies of P is ready to surpass it, giving fans what they’ve been longing for since its release…

Lies of P arrived slightly under the radar in such a busy autumn of game releases. However, thanks to the many secrets that can be discovered in New Game Plus and a speedrunning community that is still discovering the most coveted zip-skips, it’s easy to see why Neowiz Pinocchio Soulslike is as popular as it is.

Not that we expect every Soulslike that isn’t made by FromSoftware to be bad, but Lies of P shows a quality that fans might not have anticipated, and the way it correlates with FromSoftware games like Bloodborne still makes it a good one.

Equally, not all FromSoftware games are considered perfect. Not even fans are deeply rooted in communities like Souls. Nevertheless, Bloodborne is respected for several reasons. Much of that respect is perhaps because it’s a pristine IP that fans have been clamouring to see more of since its original conception and release in 2015. FromSoftware’s games have continued to grow in popularity quickly after Bloodborne. But none could come close to the unique experience Bloodborne offered. Now, while Lies of P may have achieved that, it even has the potential to succeed where Bloodborne failed.

Could the ending of Lies of P be a reference to a shared universe?!

Lies of P creates a wonderfully dark fantasy tale from the source material it adapts. If that’s all it could do, it would still be an incredible experience. Instead, when players finish the game, they will realise that Neowiz plans to create a kind of dark fairy tale universe. The game is just the stepping stone to the larger narrative.

A post-credit scene explicitly informs fans that a Souls-like – or Lies of P-like – Wizard of Oz is planned, where players would likely swap protagonists from Pinocchio to Dorothy and possibly tour a horrific version of the Emerald City.

Bloodborne fans are desperate for a sequel, remake or remaster. Not to mention a patch that would give it a higher frame rate. If a sequel came before Bloodborne got anything like that, it would be incredibly impressive.

It’s still unclear if it would be a dedicated sequel or not. But based on the details of Neowiz’s job posting in Korea, the game’s DLC could be revealed. If this is true, it’s entirely possible that The Wizard of Oz will simply be a DLC add-on. However, that would be a mistake.

The Wizard of Oz tease deserves a full sequel, not DLC

The potential of Lies of P IP has become outrageously exciting with this knowledge. Hopefully, Neowiz won’t waste it by limiting The Wizard of Oz to DLC. It would be fantastic if the game got DLC like Bloodborne Old Hunters. In the latter, players are sent back in time to discover perhaps the exploits of Carlo, Romeo or someone else involved in the base game.

However, big things like all that The Wizard of Oz has to offer would definitely deserve to be sequels in their own game (if not in spin-off form.) Bloodborne had a phenomenal DLC expansion, and Lies of P has a chance to be equally fantastic. But if they’re really weaving a branching universe, it would be great if the game could already surpass what Bloodborne achieved with a full-fledged sequel.
