TECH NEWS – An extremely rare version of the Xbox Series S console based on Sonic the Hedgehog is currently set to be auctioned off for an enormous amount!

 

 

An extremely rare version of the Xbox Series S console based on Sonic the Hedgehog will soon be auctioned off. And its asking price is a crazy $5,000. Xbox Series S is the disc-less version of the Xbox Series X console, which is designed more for players who prefer a digital library only. Many different versions of the console have been released since its release. Based on the two Sonic the Hedgehog movies, among others. However, these are extremely rare. Both Xbox Series S consoles were given away for free by Microsoft to celebrate the premiere of the films at the time of their release.

Based on the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, this Xbox Series S console is one of the weirdest pieces of hardware to come out yet and comes with a pair of matching furry “fuzzy” controllers modelled after Sonic and Knuckles.

On the front of the console, Sonic and Knuckles are fighting each other. Above it is a gold ring. The console was given away in a special giveaway on Twitter. In other words, there are very few such versions of consoles on the market. However, one copy was recently auctioned with a crazy asking price.

The console was listed on Ebay by seller smj_005, where the console was recorded with a starting bid of $5,000. This listing shows photos of the system and the special box that the console came in. It includes the console, fuzzy controllers based on Sonic and Knuckles, and a giant ring cover with the movie’s logo. According to the seller, although the console was given away in a raffle, they obtained access to this system through their connections in the gaming industry.

According to the seller, the console itself hasn’t been used much other than ensuring it can turn on and log into Xbox Live online.

The controllers have not been used either; all original packaging is intact. Based on the rough estimate given by the seller, there were probably only 5-50 of this console made. This makes it one of the rarest Xbox console variants of all time.

These promotional products received a mixed reception. While fans praised the look of this Xbox Series S console, they similarly criticized the choice to give the controllers a furry cover. Many believed that they would be inconvenient to use. At the time of writing, there is only one bid for this ad. $5,000 is probably more than most people would pay for this console. The auction ends on November 6, 2023, i.e. today, so there may be more bids by then.
