Ubisoft Is Focusing On NFTs Again: An Agreement With Immutable [VIDEO]

While the French publisher’s own platform Quartz isn’t doing much, Ubisoft has made a deal with a Web3 platform.

Immutable is a blockchain gaming platform, and Ubisoft has partnered with it “to create a new gaming experience that will further unlock the potential of Web3.” While Ubisoft and NFT are like water and oil. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s numbered helmets went nowhere, and last September the company backtracked, saying it was for research purposes only. Right. Right.

Back in May, Ubisoft teamed up with Integrated Reality Labs for Assassin’s Creed-themed Smart Collectibles, which are essentially small figurines with corresponding NFTs. Now, the French publisher is getting back to games with NFTs. Nicolas Pouard, Vice President of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab and Head of the Blockchain Initiative, said, “As the platform of choice for many leaders in the Web3 community, Immutable offers both cutting-edge technology and unique expertise in seamlessly integrating decentralized technologies into games. We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing this level of fluidity to a full-featured game, allowing players to focus on the fun of the experience.”

Immutable’s current games include Metalcore (an open-world mech shooter), Shardbound (a multiplayer collectible tactical game), Infinite Victory (arcade-style basketball), and the yet-to-be-determined Guild of Guardians. All of these focus on the NFT property. Metalcore is built on NFTs and is on the blockchain, so walkers can evolve with the technology and become not just players, but owners and investors in the technology and its assets. Immutable co-founder and CEO James Ferguson said, “We couldn’t be more excited to explore the benefits of Web3 and digital ownership for players with Ubisoft. We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to ensure the success of this partnership. We are confident that we will bring to life a fresh new experience that players will love.

What about Quartz? It remains active as underlying infrastructure.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
