A well-known Atlus leaker revealed Persona 6’s release window and provided updates on The Phantom X and Asa Persona spin-offs, among other things.
Persona 6 is targeting a 2025 release window, according to a known Atlus leaker. His claim is consistent with a report from another industry insider in early September. The latter also wrote that the game’s release plans have been pushed to 2025.
In July 2021, Atlus confirmed that it was working on the next mainline Persona game. Although the studio has provided virtually no other information about the project since then, numerous leaks about the game have surfaced online over the next two years.
Many of these rumours have suggested that Persona 6 is slated for a late 2024 release, with the first reports to the contrary appearing in mid-2023.
Persona 6 is said to be released in 2025, but the release date remains uncertain
Now, another such claim came from Midori. He is one of the most prolific Atlus leakers on the internet. Midori on X, formerly on Twitter under the online ID MbKKssTBhz5, recently stated that Persona 6 will be released in 2025. This little unofficial look at the project aligns well with Insider’s late June update. In it, he claimed that Persona 6 would be announced in 2024. However, according to Midori’s latest leak, Atlus has not yet decided on the exact release date of the game.
In addition to Persona 6, the insider also reflected on the mobile spin-off Persona 5: The Phantom X – that is, Persona 5X: Phantom of the Night – and said that the game is still aiming for a 2024 release.
The same is true of the rumoured party-based Persona game codenamed “Asa.” At least according to the same source. As for Atlus’ other projects, Midori said that Metaphor JRPG will also still be released in 2024. Consistent with the original release window announced at the June 2023 Xbox Games Showcase.
Another Shin Megami Tensei game is also reportedly in the works
Finally, the insider reiterated that another Shin Megami Tensei game is already in the works at Atlus. If we accept this claim and take the wording into consideration, it is plausible that the mysterious project will not be part of the Persona franchise. The latter is now treated as a separate thing despite technically being an SMT spin-off series. But whether this rumoured title is SMT 6 or something else entirely is unclear. Fans are still waiting for Atlus to port SMT 5 beyond the confines of the Switch.
This unannounced project appears to be more than just another version of the 2021 RPG, especially since Midori hinted at the game back in September when he described it as “connected” to the fifth numbered SMT entry.
As for the next mainline Persona game, one of the most essential pieces of information still missing is the target platforms. Several recent Atlus titles like Soul Hackers 2, Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 5 Tactica have either been released on day one on multiple platforms or will be released in the near future. But there have been hints that Persona 6 will debut as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
