Zack Snyder Would Be Willing To Continue The DC “Snyderverse” But There’s One Condition!

MOVIE NEWS – Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder has revealed what it would take to reboot DC’s “Snyderverse” and continue his abandoned DCEU movie plans…

Justice League director Zack Snyder has weighed in on what could lure you back into the DC superhero universe he’s created, and that includes his Rebel Moon partners.

Snyder’s time at DC is best known for the creation of the DC Extended Universe, colloquially known as the “Snyderverse,” which began with 2013’s Man of Steel and spanned 15 more projects, the latest of which is the upcoming Aquaman sequel.

The franchise was a hit, and Snyder amassed a cult following under his direction. But plans for a new DCU are underway after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios. The move coincided with a slump in the franchise’s performance. All of this made it clear that Warner Bros. would probably never bring back the Snyderverse.

Snyder, for his part, has moved on to bigger things. The filmmaker is working with Netflix on the Star Wars-inspired sci-fi epic Rebel Moon. The streaming service has big plans for the latter. While talking about the project in a recent interview with CulturaOcio, Snyder was asked if he’d be willing to pick up the “Snyderverse” again and continue his creative vision on the DC IP. The filmmaker previously brushed aside this suggestion.

However, the interviewer added a condition that elicited a more positive reaction from the filmmaker, who replied: “If Netflix owned the rights to the DC characters in my universe, I would absolutely.”

This sentiment is not new and is centred around the ever-growing Sell The Snyderverse To Netflix DC Initiative. The latter has been on social media since the franchise started to decline and Snyder moved away from DC. However, Snyder was not a strong supporter of the initiative. Since his departure, he’s been busy with new projects like Army of the Dead and his brainchild Rebel Moon. But the filmmaker has always been very fond of DC’s expansive story plans. While the DCU reboot puts a nail in the coffin of a possible Snyder return, the license to Netflix would completely rewrite the possibility for fans to see the original vision, which could include the rumoured Ayer cut of Suicide Squad.

A former WB president said the Snyderverse was profitable and would be an outstanding addition to Netflix, which has made bold moves recently as other streaming services have shifted to more conservative streaming content strategies in response to a turbulent market.

The thought sounds hilarious to die-hard Snyder fans. But in reality, Rebel Moon will likely remain the filmmaker’s number-one priority for years to come. Especially if the first movie is as successful as Netflix hopes it will be. A video game and a companion are already being planned for the franchise. And a promising start to the premiere film A Child of Fire could mean the end of the “Snyderverse”.

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder is likely moving further away from comic book movies. On the other hand, the DCU is getting closer and closer, and there’s no sign of turning back. In particular, Aquaman 2’s box office debut may be worse than Marvel’s. It ends the DCEU with a bang. We don’t yet know how things will pan out with Snyder’s DC plans and his new commitments at Netflix.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire opens in limited theatres on December 15, 2023. It will be streaming on Netflix on December 21.
