According to a new rumour, there could be a major overhaul of Xbox achievements this year. The changes have been rumoured for a while, and insiders say the new additions are almost ready.

Towards the end of 2023, Xbox released a major patch to fix achievement issues that some users were experiencing.

The update focused on fixing various achievement issues for Game Pass subscribers. Achievements are an essential part of the Xbox platform. It’s clear that Microsoft pays significant attention to the health of the achievement system. However, in some ways, Xbox’s achievements fall short of PlayStation’s trophies. Namely because of the lack of Platinum achievements. However, the company seems to have promising plans for the future of achievements.

Xbox insider Shpeshal Nick reported a rumour that Xbox is nearing completion of a new achievements overhaul, and users should expect to see the changes sometime in 2024.

As usual, Shpeshal Nick refrained from confirming that the complete overhaul will be released in 2024. But he explained that the announcement of the changes is expected at least this year. The insider did not specify what functions the overhaul would include. Some of the features fans are hoping for are Platinum-like achievements. Furthermore, there is the possibility of pinning achievements to an Xbox profile, as well as the separation of DLC achievements from the achievements of the base game.

This news seems to confirm Xbox head Phil Spencer’s previous statements regarding the platform’s future. He explained that the development of achievements is one of the aspects that the company wants to improve. At the time, it appeared that work was already underway on this renovation. As the year 2024 progresses, it is likely that it will only get closer to the implementation of the new system. Luckily for Xbox fans, this achievement update isn’t the only thing coming in 2024.

Xbox 2024 plans include some up-and-coming exclusive games like Avowed, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and Hellblade 2.

Game Pass subscribers will get these games for free. In addition, some interesting non-exclusive titles will be coming. For example, Cities: Skylines 2 and Persona 3 Reload.

Spencer previously confirmed that a price increase for Xbox Game Pass was “inevitable”. With Microsoft’s massive $68 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023, that seems even more likely. It is not yet known when and to what extent this price increase will apply to Game Pass subscribers. But at least subscribers will likely get even better deals thanks to Microsoft’s massive acquisition. For example, games like Call of Duty, Diablo, and more Activision Blizzard titles will be added to Game Pass over time.
