The Last Of Us Part II Remastered: How Much Better-Looking Than The Original? [VIDEO]

We’ve got a comparison video between the original game, released over three years ago on PlayStation 4, and the version coming to PlayStation 5 in a few days.

The YouTube channel ElAnalistaDebits often produces fair, high-quality comparisons of recent games, so you can see how performance or visual differences vary from platform to platform. It also often compares the original games to the remastered version, and this time is no different, as The Last Of Us Part II and The Last Os Uf Part II Remastered can be viewed side by side, and you can see some differences with a layman’s eye…

On the PlayStation 4, the original game runs at a frame rate of 30fps at 1080p (as it was released towards the end of the console’s life, Naughty Dog pushed the envelope). On the PlayStation 4 Pro, the frame rate hasn’t changed, but the resolution has increased to 1440p. The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PlayStation 5 offers two graphical modes. Using Quality mode at 4K resolution will give you 30fps, but with VRR this can range from 30-50. Using Performance mode, you’ll get 60 FPS at 1440p, and VRR can boost this to between 60-90.

With PlayStation 5 games, we’ve often heard that the SSD will result in significantly shorter load times, but this time Naughty Dog’s current-gen title still has slightly slower load times, but with higher resolution, variable refresh rate (VRR), better quality vegetation and shadows, anisotropic filtering, and a larger draw distance. Its performance is similar to last year’s PS5 version of The Last of Us Part I: around 90 FPS in performance mode and around 70 with VRR on, compared to an average of 40 FPS in quality mode.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be released on January 19 on PlayStation 5. If you own the original PlayStation 4 version, you can upgrade to the new version for $/€10.
