Is Until Dawn’s PlayStation 4 Exclusivity Ending?

Supermassive Games’ game is rumored to be in development for two other platforms, and development on a new version has been underway for some time…

We’d like to say up front that the source of the rumor is leaking from Sony, so it’s likely that the person is telling the truth. It’s Billbil-kun, who posted what he knows on a French website, Dealabs. Since we’ve been hearing from him month after month about PlayStation Plus Essential games, there could be some truth to what he’s saying. (Plus, we recently wrote about what Death Stranding 2 might be subtitled based on his information…)

According to the leaker, Until Dawn, which was an excellent game in its time, is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC. It is currently a PlayStation 4 exclusive title. Billbil-kun didn’t say whether the console and PC versions would be released at the same time, but considering Sony’s strategy, it seems more likely that the PlayStation 5 version will be released first (with the name Until Dawn, as it won’t have a “Remastered” subtitle), and only after a few months, or maybe a year, will the PC port come out.

The port has been in development for at least a year, but it’s not yet clear if it’s a remaster or a remake of the 2015 original. The insider believes that the same title as the original means that only a graphical tweak is possible, so it would differ from the PlayStation 4 version in that it would not lack ray tracing, for example, so at the very least it would have to be treated as a remaster of the yet-unannounced project.

A new version of Until Dawn has not been announced yet. Therefore, it is not known when it will be released for PlayStation 5 and PC. This might require a State of Play broadcast, but since it’s possible that Death Stranding 2 could be getting some sort of announcement in early February, Sony might as well announce it here.
