The Walking Dead Spinoff-Crossover Might Be Coming?! Scott Gimple Responds!

MOVIE NEWS – Ahead of the latest Walking Dead spinoff, The Ones Who Live, franchise boss Scott Gimple has revealed whether a crossover with other TWD series is possible…

The Walking Dead producer Scott Gimple has responded to the possibility of a crossover involving the various spinoffs of the zombie franchise. Although WD’s main series ended in 2022, the franchise has lived on through several spinoffs. In addition to Fear the Walking Dead and World Beyond, which run alongside the main series, AMC has since started releasing other series revolving around prominent WD characters. The latest is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which premieres on February 25.

At AMC’s panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, Scott Gimple admitted to placing “breadcrumbs” among all the Walking Dead spinoffs to identify potential crossovers.

He added: “Yeah, I do have dreams of merging this all together.” Here is the full quote:

“So when it comes to something like [a crossover event between the new spinoffs], yeah, I do have dreams of merging this all together, and I have laid little breadcrumbs toward that, but you never know exactly when and how because of a variety of reasons… I will just say, I’m building those pathways, but there could be all sorts of pivots along the way.”

How likely is a Walking Dead crossover?

2023 saw the debut of Dead City and Daryl Dixon, the two WD spinoffs that continue after the series finale and expand the zombie universe. The former series revolves around the duo of Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who go on a mission to the walker-infested New York City. The latter focuses on the adventures of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in France, who mysteriously washed ashore sometime after the end of The Walking Dead. Both series are returning for a second season.

The next Walking Dead series to premiere is The Ones Who Live, bringing back Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) years after they left the original show.

Rick’s return was highly anticipated. At one time, it was said that it was coming as part of a movie trilogy. With Rick being gone for so long, there’s a lot of interest in reuniting with characters like Daryl, who was looking for Rick in the last Walking Dead story. This thread alone could form the basis of a crossover between the two series.

Additionally, all of the WD spinoffs have brought new elements to the franchise. Be it never-before-seen walkers or merciless opponents. The remaining characters are all scattered around the world. But arcs in Daryl Dixon Season 2 or Dead City Season 2 could bring them closer together. Gimple is already planting the seeds for a WD crossover event. So, if AMC wants to continue investing in this franchise, it could quickly become a reality in the future.
