Are Sony And Marvel Arguing Over The Future Of Spider-Man 4?

MOVIE NEWS – Word is that the two sides can’t come to an agreement on the franchise, and that could raise some very interesting questions (like will they throw an entire movie concept out the window again this time? because it’s happened before).

Sony and Marvel Studios (which could be called Disney) are slowly coming to an agreement on Spider-Man 4, but there is no complete agreement between the two companies. Sony wants a dramatically bigger movie, while Marvel and Kevin Feige are planning a smaller vision, even though the Tom Holland trilogy was a success, although the actor has made a condition for his return, signing on for the first three films and only signing on for the fourth if the story is right.

On Twitter, HolyField News wrote that the movie will be released sometime in early 2026. Sony wants more Spider-Man characters from the universe (e.g. Venom, Kraven who didn’t appear in the films, Miles Morales, Scorpion, Mysterio and Norman Osborn). The film could reportedly feature a superhero from an unknown Marvel universe, while Sony is calling for a multiverse ending that would lead to the reappearance of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men (they appeared in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, again in a spider suit). It is questionable whether they would appear in Holland’s Spider-Man films, or if the actors’ franchises would continue that way. Feige wants Drew Goddard to take over from current director Jon Watts (he worked on Netflix’s Daredevil series, for example).

History seems to repeat itself. In 2007, Sam Raimi was working on Spider-Man 4, which would have also starred Tobey Maguire (and a fifth film was already in the pipeline!). Despite the lofty ambitions, in January 2010 Sony Pictures announced that Raimi had quit the project, claiming that he couldn’t meet the May 2011 release date, and that he had gone through FOUR scripts in the process, all of which he hated…

Just like Valve doesn’t like number 3, Spider-Man doesn’t like number 4?
