Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: Not a Paper-Thin Overview [VIDEO]

Nintendo has released a 5-minute overview (in Japanese only, for some reason…?) of the more modern version of the Intelligent Systems game so you can get to know the RPG better; since the original was a hit on GameCube, it’s sure to sell well on Nintendo Switch.

The nefarious X-Nauts are after the treasure behind the Thousand Year Door! With a map from Princess Peach and the help of some locals, Mario travels through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. To succeed in this quest, you’ll have to level up Mario and his friends, master timing-based attacks and badges to impress the crowd on the battlefield, and use all the abilities that come with being cursed – conveniently made of paper, like folding into a plane to cross large gaps or turning sideways to slip through narrow openings.

Surprises abound in this deep and engaging story, where everyone has something to say and it’s often not what you expect. Mario will meet all kinds of interesting people on his journey, like the cheerful and studious Goombella and the shy but determined Koops. Some of these characters will need your help with their own quests, or even join your party. Others, like Peach and Bowser, have their own stories that you’ll play out between Mario’s chapters!

Twenty years after the original release on Nintendo GameCube, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the second installment in the franchise (the first came out on the N64, the third, Super Paper Mario, on the Wii), is now coming to Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch remaster features updated graphics and a number of other changes that make the game easier to enjoy than ever before. It’s easier to immerse yourself in the game, which can be good for your mood.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is (unsurprisingly) exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and will be released on May 23, while the big N prepares its successor, which has yet to be announced.
