TECH NEWS – Samsung introduces its new 3D map view feature, first shown at CES 2024. The 3D map view is now available in all countries where users have access to the SmartThings ecosystem.

 

The Map View virtually maps the actual floor plan in the SmartThings app, simplifying the control of smart home devices. Users have a better view of their devices and can comfortably adjust the lighting, desired temperature, air quality or energy consumption almost anytime and anywhere.

The function can offer a worldwide solution to the challenge of managing the growing number of connected devices in households, facilitating the control of smart homes, since it is not necessary to search for each device individually before use. The user’s home will be clearer on the interface, and it will be updated in real time when each new device is connected.

Until now, the previous two-dimensional Map view only worked by specifying the floor plan of the house, the new 3D map view assesses and maps the home using the spatial artificial intelligence of Samsung devices, such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™ robot vacuum cleaner, as well as LiDAR sensors. From now on, users can more easily review the spatial properties and conditions of their home on 3D maps.

The filtering function of the Map View has also been improved, so that the necessary devices can be more efficiently monitored and controlled. The purpose of the function is to provide a more personalized and even more user-friendly intelligent service with the help of artificial intelligence, which was also presented at the CES 2024 exhibition.

 

Availability

 

Map View is available within the SmartThings app on Android and iOS mobile devices and TVs. Users will soon be able to control their smart home in this way through additional devices, including Family Hub™ refrigerators.

Map View was introduced in South Korea and the United States last year, and is now available in all countries where users have access to the SmartThings app.

“Samsung is constantly working on new solutions so that users can control their home devices without inconvenience, and Map View is a result of our efforts,” said Seungbeom Choi, head of Samsung’s Device Platform Center. “In the future, we will introduce even more related services and functions so that our users can have an even more ideal smart home experience.”

Samsung is currently working with construction companies to extend Map View to homes and offices. The company aims to support the creation of a smart environment for users worldwide by expanding its functions. These include a user experience (UX) optimized for large screens that supports business displays, and Quick Controls, which help users access key features more easily.
