Silent Hill 2 Remake: It May Be Closer To Release Than We Think

Another rating of Konami’s game that will not be remade by the Japanese publisher, but outsourced to the Bloober team (known for Blair Witch, Observer, The Medium, etc.), and we already heard that the collaboration between the two parties is not entirely smooth.

Last time we reported on the South Korean age rating, but now we hear from a more relevant market that Silent Hill 2 Remake has been reviewed. This time, the game has been reviewed by the ESRB, and since this is the US ratings board, it really can’t be too long before new news about the game emerges (i.e. they should soon be concrete about exactly WHEN it will be released).

On Twitter, Wario64 shared the ESRB rating (Mature, 17+), which reads as follows: “This is a horror adventure game in which players take on the role of a man who returns to a mysterious town while being tormented by his past. From a third-person perspective, players explore the town of Silent Hill, interacting with characters and fighting humans and creatures (e.g. pyramid heads, mannequins, monsters). Players use pistols, shotguns, rifles, and knives to kill enemies. Combat is enhanced by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and blood splatter effects. Some environments feature large bloodstains and/or guts/organs on walls, floors, and surrounding bodies.

Cutscenes and illustrations depict other instances of violence and/or blood and gore: characters impaled; a character suffocated with a pillow; enemies with body parts sewn together. The game contains some suggestive/sexual material: characters pole dancing in strip club settings; posters of women in revealing outfits (e.g., bra and thong, deep cleavage); dialogue alluding to sexuality and/or sexual abuse/misconduct (e.g., “Remember that time at the hotel? You said you took everything. But you forgot the videotape we made.”; “Don’t touch me…you’re only after one thing…or you could just force me like he always did.”). The word “sh*t” appears in the game,” the ESRB wrote.

Silent Hill 2 Remake will be released later this year for PlayStation 5 and PC.
