It’s a rather low-key announcement from the South Korean studio, and it doesn’t mean that this project will be released anytime soon, so we’ll have to wait years for that.
While Goddess of Victory: Nikke is in the works, and while we’re still three weeks away from the release of Stellar Blade, the team has already announced a third project. It will be a AAA sci-fi action RPG set in an urban setting, and they’re calling it cross-platform. This means that not only will it be coming to PC and consoles (there’s not much point guessing what for, since by the time it’s released the next generation of consoles will be in stores), but also mobile, so maybe iOS and Android will get the game, which will be built on Unreal Engine (most likely Unreal Engine 5) and will feature monsters and creatures, so you’ll be slashing them with a sword, for example, if we had to guess.
A lot of people are still being hired for this project, so development is still in the early stages. They are looking for a programmer (technical artist), several artists (monster concept artist, character concept artist, animator), and a designer (script writer) for the yet-to-be-announced title. This doesn’t sound like something Shift Up has been working on for years. The new project makes sense: Stellar Blade no longer needs a full crew, as its demo is already available for PlayStation 5.
“The demo takes place from the very beginning of the game, when Eve, a member of the 7th Airborne Squad, is sent to Earth on a mission to reclaim the planet from the Naytiba, to the first boss fight. This first phase includes the Tutorial Phase, which will help you familiarize yourself with the basic combat functions as you explore post-war Eidos 7, a human city now infested by the Naytiba, giving you an early grasp of the gameplay mechanics that will serve you throughout the game’s story. We have also included a little surprise for players who complete the first stage,” the demo description reads.
Stellar Blade is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 26.
