Flint: Treasure Of Oblivion: What Was It Really Like To Be A Pirate? [VIDEO]

Savage Level and Microids are working on a tactical RPG that tries to portray the pirate life in a different way than Skull & Bones and Sea of Thieves, and it comes from a studio that has been working on this project in secret for more than two years.

This is what Aurelien and Maxime Josse, two of the founders of Savage Level, founded in 2021, had to say about the game in their press release: “Flint: Treasure of Oblivion is an opportunity for us to create a game in a universe we have always been passionate about. This game gives us the opportunity to educate the general public about what piracy really is, which is often caricatured and misrepresented. Flint: Treasure of Oblivion is the culmination of a rethinking process aimed at advancing the clichés of narrative in video games. With this title, we are proposing an original way of telling stories through the medium of comics, and taking the opportunity to highlight the Franco-Belgian comics that have made us dream since our childhood”.

Flint: Treasure of Oblivion is the first game from Savage Level, a team of industry veterans founded in 2021, promising a gaming experience that combines rich storytelling with deep, accessible gameplay. Prepare to join Captain Flint, his second-in-command Billy Bones, and his crew of old salts in search of a legendary treasure that promises freedom and fortune. With its original storytelling using traditional comic book storytelling, it invites players to immerse themselves in a historically accurate pirate adventure spiced with fantasy. The game offers adventure, but also strategic depth through its turn-based combat mechanics, refreshing the foundations of the genre by drawing on role-playing and board-game mechanics, particularly dice rolls. As players build their crew, each member brings unique skills to the table, allowing them to tailor their strategy to their playing style. During tactical phases, players can use Skill and Attribute cards to enhance their crew members and gain an advantage over their opponents. Hoist the mainsail and set sail to discover the secrets buried in the distant lands of Flint: Treasure of Oblivion.

Preparation is the key! Choose your crew members with unique abilities, acquire new skills, and improve your dice. During the tactical phases of turn-based combat, use cards to trigger skills and attributes, and influence the battle with dice rolls. Enjoy a narrative that goes beyond the usual comic codes (onomatopoeia, speech bubbles) to offer players original and dynamic comic strips. Discover a magnificent world, from the French city of Saint-Malo to the exotic landscapes of Central America. Visit different environments (cities, camps, jungle, caves…) powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game faithfully recreates a world of piracy, incorporating historical elements (language, costumes, weapons) to make the experience even more immersive.

Flint: Treasure of Oblivion will be released in the fourth quarter of this year (October-December) for PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles and PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store).

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
