TECH NEWS – There is also an option coming to this browser that will benefit gamers, but it is questionable whether this will make it more popular, as we can only doubt it.

In the past we used to say that we only use Internet Explorer to download another browser. That role (and IE’s in general) has been taken over by Microsoft Edge. Its latest canary build includes several new features, including one to manage the browser’s memory usage and a mode optimized for gaming. This was reported in more detail by The Verge.

You’ll get a slider to adjust how much RAM Microsoft Edge uses, and another option to keep that limit active even when you’re playing (it’s common these days to have something running in the background while you play; multitasking is a common practice for many genres), so this could be useful for those who don’t have a lot of memory. You can set the RAM limit between 1-16 GB, although it’s also possible that this screenshot was taken on a machine with 16 gigs of memory in the PC. That’s not a lot these days (and slowly, with the AI features, Windows 11 is pushing the minimum requirement in that direction…), and Microsoft warns that setting the limit too low can seriously slow down the browser!

Microsoft has already come up with an effective way to limit resources, especially on laptops, so that the battery doesn’t drain as quickly when using the browser. However, the RAM limit is a perfectly understandable move, as browsers tend to eat up memory, and it’s not just Chromium-based browsers that do this (Edge, Opera, and of course Google Chrome are based on it), but Firefox can easily grab a few gigabytes of RAM.

The problem is that Opera GX, which is aimed at gamers, already has built-in RAM and CPU limiting options…
