MSI Claw: New BIOS and Intel Drivers, Significantly Better Performance

TECH NEWS – Thanks to new system software and a new graphics driver from Intel, MSI’s handheld PC should be able to deliver significantly improved performance and slowly catch up with other AMD-based platforms.

Compared to the Asus ROG Ally and the Steam Deck OLED, the MSI Claw came at a high price that was not accompanied by very good performance. Rivals have shown a better price-performance ratio, and MSI has responded by releasing new system software updates and lowering the price of its machine. Intel has also helped with new drivers that make the Core Ultra processors and Arc integrated graphics chips more powerful than ever.

The new BIOS is called “BIOS Ver. E1T41IMS.106” (see second link below), which fixes several bugs and improves game performance. Now you don’t need a USB drive or dock to update, which MSI has also made much easier. Download and open the BIOS file, select the extract all option, select Flashwin, right click on the file with a long press, run it as an administrator, then select “Yes” and wait for the system to reboot, which will complete the BIOS update.

In MSI’s tests, they have seen significant performance gains with the new drivers. F1 23 improved by 43.5%, Hogwarts Legacy by 27.6%, Diablo IV by 22.6%, Forza Horizon 5 by 18.4%, Dead Space Remake by 21.9% and Helldivers 2 by 10.3% with the new software package. The MSI Claw is not powered by AMD’s Ryzen APU, so it was important for Intel to go all out for better performance, but since the Core Ultra chips are still fairly new to the handheld market, it will take some time to fine-tune performance.

The only question is how many people will use Intel’s Core Ultra chips in this segment later, as AMD’s market share is quite dominant.
