Not exactly a 1:1 remake, this remake of Fallout 2 uses a different perspective and has a lot of developers.
Dubbed Project Arroyo, the fan-made Fallout 2 remake will have a first-person perspective, and according to project lead Damion Daponte, it’s moving at a very fast pace towards completion. In an interview with The Gamer, Daponte talked about what platforms it might be coming to on PC, and what he thinks about possible Steam Deck support.
“I’m leaning towards doing what Enderal: Forgotten Stories (a Skyrim mod with a similar goal) and put it on Steam. It’s just a platform that everybody has. It’s easier to access, easier to update, easier to install. It’s just more efficient. We would have to figure out all the specifics with [Steam], making it so you need Fallout 2 and Fallout 4 and all the DLC to get it, and making sure there are no legal issues. But we’ll see, we’re still looking into it. Personally, I’m leaning towards Steam. Steam Deck support? Maybe, we’ll see. I don’t even know if mods work well on Steam Deck, to be honest. I’ll have to ask my friends,” Daponte wrote.
It’s also worth checking out Project Arroyo’s Twitter and Reddit, where you can see a lot of first-person concept art for the Fallout 2 remake, and follow the development of the remake on the latter. In any case, it’s impressive how the developers have managed to translate the gritty atmosphere into 3D, even though there’s no release date yet and who knows how long we’ll have to wait. They were probably thwarted by the sudden next-gen update for Fallout 4 (Fallout: London had a similar story, which we covered).
In the video embedded below, we get a great comparison of what the original Fallout 2 looks like and what Project Arroyo looks like. This alone makes the project exciting, but who knows how long we’ll have to wait?
