A developer who previously worked on Halo Infinite has begun to implement what Microsoft is reportedly quietly planning.
The former Halo Infinite developer has started to port Master Chief to Unreal Engine 5. The man in question is Kaleb Nekumanesh, and the project may be called Return to Alpha Halo (no official name yet). It’s a fan project, and according to a tweet he published on June 18, the experience will soon be available for free (he also didn’t use the word game). However, this line of thinking is somewhat in line with what the Redmond-based company can do.
Microsoft is said to be planning a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first part of the franchise, and there is a chance that Epic Games’ technology will be used there as well. But back to Nekumanesh’s project, we’re stuck on an abandoned spaceship. Fans will immediately recognize it as the Mona Lisa. Only we’ll be attacked by infected Flood fighters, which will give us the scariest gameplay compared to the High Charity we saw in Halo 3. We’ll be walking around the ship with our assault rifle and flashlight to survive the adventures while Alpha Halo is out there.
We should add that there is only ONE person working on this project. So do not expect a full-blown remake or game, as that would require a much larger budget, crew, and time. However, whatever this turns out to be, it already reminds us of Alien: Isolation, which was one of the best games of 2014 and one of the most exciting titles to date.
We don’t know when Nekumanesh’s passion project (because we can call it that) will be released, but it’s certainly already grabbing the public’s attention, so Halo Infinite fans will surely be happy when it does. Of course, because of Unreal Engine 5, we’re going to need a pretty powerful PC.
