Cate Blanchett is In Love with Borderlands 3 – We Might Even Meet Her in the Game?!

MOVIE NEWS – “I Got Really Absorbed”: Cate Blanchett bought a PS5 and became addicted to Borderlands 3 to prepare for her film role.

Actress Cate Blanchett recently revealed that she was completely immersed in the world of Borderlands while preparing for her role as Lilith in the upcoming film adaptation. She shared that buying the PlayStation 5 was the first step in her preparation process.

“The crazy asks are usually the things I gravitate towards; the things I could never conceive of.”

“I think there also may have been a little Covid madness – I was spending a lot of time in the garden, using the chainsaw a little too freely. My husband said, ‘This film could save your life,'” Blanchett recalled in a recent interview with Empire. “My thumbs can barely control a phone, but I bought a PS5 and we played each other. I wanted to know the limits of the game and what fans loved about the character. I got really absorbed in that whole world. The cosplayers. The YouTube make-up tutorials.”

Unfortunately, she didn’t talk about whether she still plays the game today. Anyway, Borderlands 3 has been free with PS Plus Essential since Tuesday. So anyone who wants to play with Cate Blanchett can now try to find her on one of the servers for free, just in case…

The film adaptation of the Borderlands video games has been in development for about five years after Lionsgate first announced it in August 2015.

Eli Roth signed on to direct in February 2020. The cast selection lasted from May 2020 to March 2021. Filming began back in April and lasted until June.

This was followed by two weeks of reshoots in 2023, directed by Tim Miller, due to Roth’s unavailability due to Thanksgiving commitments. The screenplay was written by Roth and Joe Crombie.

Who else is in the Borderlands movie?

In addition to Blanchett’s Lilith, Borderlands also stars Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina. Jack Black will be the voice of Claptrap. Kevin Hart plays Roland, while Jamie Lee Curtis plays Dr. Patricia Tannis. Florian Munteanu will be Krieg, and Edgar Ramirez will be Atlas. Mad Moxxi by Gina Gershon. (I will be very curious about the latter…)

Borderlands is scheduled to hit theatres on August 9. (As usual, the European domestic premiere is expected the day before, i.e. on the evening of August 8.)
